Fragments: You & I is a picture book where words and images come together to illustrate the feeling of love, with its nuances and complexities.
‘Fragments’ by definition implies that they were once part of something that they no longer are. A whole that is broken or detached. The completeness is implicit in the incompleteness. The two states of being, involves a transformation, from what was to what has become. They cannot be independent of their past. In this duality/plurality, exists ‘you and I’- just as how there is complexity and affinity, in a relationship between ‘you and I’.
The idea of the book is no way to define what love is but to illustrate the feeling of love, as an experience, what it is like, to be in it, to be around it or without it. To understand its essence, in it’s existence. In some ways, this book is autobiographical though the book has not necessarily evolved out of only first-hand experiences. ‘Fragments: You and I’ is an attempt to understand love, with it’s nuances and complexities, from a single perspective since there could be so many ways to look at it.
Each page is a play of words and images, and the meaning that exists independently and in the juxtaposition. Similarly, each page has a story both independent, yet connected with the rest of the book. There is no attempt towards a predetermined linear narrative but rather a more layered one within each story, on each page. Each story is alive, with a past, present and future. It’s own secret life. Given the universality of the themes, the purpose of the book is to find resonance with its readers. Love still remains a mystery and a subject of curiosity.
